the location was perfect, situated downtown in a quiet lane with easy access to museums and the train station via metro. the staff were incredibly nice and helpful, and the other roommates were respectful. I loved the youth hostel spirit and didn't mind sleeping in a dormitory. the common room was great, with a snooker table, table tennis, and table football. Plus, there were plenty of bars and restaurants nearby that were more affordable than those near the Bund. a great experience for those who enjoy a lively atmosphere and meeting new people. Cons: Nothing, it was perfect! 😊.

I really liked the cozy and welcoming atmosphere of the hotel. The decorations were charming, with beautiful Chinese lanterns and traditional artwork that added a touch of elegance. It made me feel like I was truly experiencing the local culture. The general areas were well-maintained and clean, making it easy for me to navigate as a senior. The hostel was also conveniently located in the central area, with easy access to nearby attractions and public transportation.
I wish the hotel had more senior-friendly amenities. Perhaps some handrails in the hallways and additional seating areas would have been helpful.

We enjoyed the location and character of the Travelers Rest Youth Hostel. Easy access to buses and trains and good restuarants - both Western style and Chines. The staff speak English and are able to answer all the questions we had for them. The massage parlour right next door is a bonus too - a lovely treat after a long day on your feet in the city. Very reasonably priced for a wonderful foot and neck massage. All round a great place to stay and we would definately stay there again.
My daughter hit her head very hard on the ledge that sticks out on the left side of the first flight of stairs going to the rooms. She was bending over carrying a heavy suitcase, walking close to the wall and did not see the concrete ledge and as she lifted herself to mount the next step she nearly knocked herself out and cut the top of her head. There should be some sort of warning or protection from the sharp edge. Its not safe.

Nice place for young people, very good location
They don't clean the room during the stay even if you stay for 6 days!!!

The location of the hostel was great, with shopping and restaurants nearby. It was also convenient to walk to popular attractions like the French Concession and the main shopping street. The hostel was clean and spacious, with a rooftop restaurant that served a decent breakfast buffet.
Some of the staff members had a limited grasp of English, which made communication difficult at times. The cleanliness of the showers and toilets could have been better, as the room was not cleaned during my stay.

Good location, around 10mn walking from the Jing'an Station on the lines 7 and 2 . The line 2 is a very stategic line : it takes you, without transfer, to the Bund, to People Square, to the Hongqiao railway station (Beijing express train) or to the Hongqiao airport (local flights). It is situated at the end of a "lilong" : you can be afraid but what a good surprise when you arrive at the front of the hostel ! It is also safe. Hostel was clean. We rented a double private room which was nice. Air conditionned was ok. Staff was helpful and speak english. We used the laundry service : it was really ok and not really expensive (10 yuan to wash only and 30 to wash & dry ..) We really recommand this hostel if you are looking for quality and friendly price. Don't hesitate to stay here !

The hostel had clean and comfortable beds, spacious showers, and a separate toilet. the rooms also had lockers and power stations, which were convenient. the public area was big with amenities such as ping pong tables and a terrace. They even provided free umbrellas on rainy days. the location was in a quiet alley, allowing guests to explore an authentic old-style Shanghai neighborhood.
Felt completely happy, nothing to complain about.

The location is good, it looked really nice, it was clean and there is a really beautifull view on the terrace.
It takes a while (1 hour) for the air conditioner to heat the room in late November, but it's overall ok.

My stay at this youth hostel was absolutely mind-blowing! The private room I stayed in was so cosy and beautifully decorated, with a super comfy bed. The location was jaw-droppingly perfect, just a short 10-minute walk from the bustling city center. The hostel is tucked away on a quiet lane, with amazing restaurants just a stone's throw away. The facilities were top-notch, with a snooker table, table tennis, and table football in the very nice common room. The area itself was vibrant and lively, with shops, bars, and clubs all within easy reach. The metro station was conveniently nearby, making it a breeze to explore the city. The icing on the cake was the fantastic hostel bar, offering a great selection of drinks. All the facilities in my room worked perfectly, from the free Wi-Fi to the air conditioning and flat-screen TV. I was also thrilled to find a car park available for guests. this was an unforgettable experience and the perfect choice for young travelers like myself.

I stayed in a double room, so don't know about the dorms. But the double room is absolutely better value to your money than any other two or three star hotel in the area! Helpful staff who speaks English and a good atmosphere.
